James C. Cotting Study/Research Abroad Grant

The Department of Political Science has established the James C. Cotting Study/Research Abroad Grant to support undergraduate political science majors who wish to enhance their educational experience by studying and/or doing research in a foreign country. 

Applications will be evaluated by a review committee that will make recommendations to the chair of the Political Science Department.  As many as 7 grants of up to $2,000 each will be awarded to political science majors who do not receive other OSU travel abroad grants.

The criteria for evaluation of proposals are:

·         The student’s planned course of study or research abroad.

·         The quality of the student’s performance at Ohio State.

·         How the study/research abroad program fits into a student’s major and career plans.

Applications must contain four parts:

·         Completed application form.

·         Statement of purpose that outlines the student’s planned course of study/research abroad, and discusses its relevance to the student’s academic, professional and personal goals. (1-2 pages)

·         Letter of recommendation from an Ohio State faculty member.

·         Copy of student’s advising report.

Cotting Study/Research Abroad Grant application form, available on the Political Science Department's web site: http://inet.polisci.ohio-state.edu/cotting_research_grant.htm -- it is a Microsoft Word document with fillable form fields. Applications must be submitted in both electronic and hard copy format by June 1, 2008.

Deadline: The application deadline is June 1, 2008.  Students with winning grant applications are informed by the end of spring quarter. Funds may be accessed beginning July 1, 2008, and will be available for one year.  All grants are subject to the rules and regulations of The Ohio State University.
