Political Science Graduate Students

As a graduate student in the Department of Political Science at The Ohio State University you will receive two e-mail accounts. 

OSU E-mail account in the form of - lastname.n@osu.edu
Political Science account in the form of - lastname@mail.polisci.ohio-state.edu
            (If two people with same last name, initial of first name will also be used)

You may  elect to have one of the accounts forwarded to the other account so you only need to read from one server.   

To have your OSU e-mail account forwarded to the Political Science e-mail server go to http://8help.ohio-state.edu/forms/mail_forwarding.html.

To have your Political Science e-mail account forwarded to the OSU central e-mail server, please send mail to prl@mail.polisci.ohio-state.edu.  Please provide the username for your Political Science account and the username for your OSU e-mail account.

When configuring your e-mail software to connect to the Political Science e-mail server

• Real Name: your first and last name
• User/Login Name: your lastname (unless advised otherwise)
• Mail Server (Incoming): polisci.ohio-state.edu
• Return Address: lastname@polisci.ohio-state.edu
• SMTP Server (Outgoing)*: polisci.ohio-state.edu

When configuring your e-mail software to connect to the OSU e-mail server

• Real Name - your first and last name
• User/Login Name - your OSU username (lastname.#)
• Mail Server (Incoming) - pop.service.ohio-state.edu
• Return Address - lastname.#@osu.edu

SMTP Server (Outgoing)* - smtp.service.ohio-state.edu

 

*Outgoing Mail using Cable Modem service, DSL service, or modem internet service provider (ISP)

Generally your ISP will require you to set your outgoing mail server to their SMTP address.  Refer to the directions provided by your ISP

If you connect from an OSU Residence Hall, use smtp.resnet.ohio-state.edu. If you do not connect to the Internet through OSU, you will need to use your ISP's outgoing mail server.
